[He nudges into her, grinning - takes off down the line path that usually holds miles of queueing tourists]

I'm waiting for you!

[Doesn't let him get too far ahead before she races after, hopping the railings rather than go through the zigzags of line]

C'mon, the cars should be just ahead.

[Oh, right. Vaults over the railings after her, hot on her heels]

They better be. We shoulda be up in the air like ten minutes ago.

[Sure enough, there the cars are, as they round the corner, just as predicted]

[Grins, then goes for whatever seat in these things seems like you'd get the most g-force]

Okay. Now I'm ready for some towering terrors!

[Slides in next to her and pulls the bar down so they don't go flying]

You think they'll know when to get it going? Like... there ain't no one here to run the ride.

[No sooner has he said it, though, than the lights flicker and the door slides closed, the ride audio starting up as they start their ascent]

[She looks around, trying to make sense of the theme, watching the show scenes as the car trucks them around]

...Pretty dark, huh.

Kinda creepy, too.

Dude, it's way more than flickering lights! Did you see those ghosts? There were totally ghosts!

And it ain't creepy creepy. It's creepy-cool.

They probably weren't real ghosts. Prolly just CG.

[By now the elevator's started rising again]

Yeah, but they looked real, right?

We oughtta be taking notes for when we revamp the one haunted house for Intensity. If it's just effects, we can totally pull it off.

Oh--huh, sure. You think we can get an elevator shaft rigged up though?

You think we gotta have the elevator to make the ghosts show?

[Up and up and up they go]

Oh--maybe? Maybe they get lured by people flying, which's usually ghost territory.

Guess we gotta do an elevator, then.

[Up and up they go, past where the walls give way to a view of the park. He leaves off talking to grab at her arm, excited]

[Leans forward, squinting out at the view as the elevator slows to a stop, just hanging there, the cart swaying faintly in the wind for just a little too long for comfort.

It barely occurs to Nemesis to tuck away her glasses before the elevator goes into a sudden freefall]

[Yeah. That]

[Was very sudden]

[He shrieks as they drop - laughs, breathless, as they lurch to a sudden stop again]

[She yelps, a little disoriented by the strobing lights that fill the tower, and makes another surprised little sound as the elevator rockets upwards a few more floors before another quick drop.]

[One of his hands is white-knuckled on the bar holding them in - the other reaches out, excited, to give her a little shake]

Oh my god - here it comes, here's the big one.

[The car pauses--jerks up a few meters, then down 30 or 40--before slowly creaking back up to the top, out from the dim light of the tower to the bright daylight of the sun outside. She shakes at him instead, the knuckles of her free hand grey as usual, but clenched securely enough on the safety bar]

--Ready?

[He laughs again, breathless]

No!

[And then they're free-falling, and he's too busy screaming to say anything else]

[Of course it's going to happen, but it's surprising nevertheless as the lights go out and they drop into pitch darkness, no frame of reference where they are and how much further they have to go. Her good hand, still hooked to his sleeve, digs in deeper as her breath catches and stomach floats and they're pressed up against the safety bar, as if flying out of their seats.

And then they slow, abrupt but gentle, the end of the drop shaft lit with a star field effect as the car gently nears the bottom]

[He's still holding onto her when they reach the bottom, the shriek as they drop giving way to more breathless laughter]

Oh, man. That felt like way farther than forty.

[She returns a few breathy chuckles as the car winds its way back to the unloading dock, having remembered to breathe again]

Mm... I-it was an okay fall, but I dunno about way farther...
