[After many a tiny finger food and many more tiny glasses of wine and one overblown and completely not sad at all!!! graduation ceremony, what better place to go than the dead zone? What better thing to do than climb up the giant, golden chain up to the crack in the sky? Sure it burns to the touch, but what's a little more pain on the pile--that's the point of all those tiny glasses of wine, right?

So never mind the slight sizzling sound, nor the uncomfortably familiar odor of burning flesh all the way up. There's a goal at the end; one that--in theory--will make this all worthwhile]

[Which. Was more or less the part she'd been attempting not to think about, and she picks at the larger blister on her palm, though the metal finger has no nail to properly catch on it. All she can do is press hard against the bubble, and again, as they leave the gatehouse behind.]

[The courtyard seems the same as the previous few times they've run into them, and she pauses--sets out a different way than last time (she thinks)]

[He follows after her, footsteps unsteady - catches himself on a table when he stumbles, and doesn't notice the smear of blood he leaves behind when one of the blisters breaks open against the rasp of the stone]

[She looks up from picking her way around the sort of debris left behind by people leaving in a hurry (and she doesn't quite remember, but it feels uncomfortably familiar all the same)--glances back at the noise, his uneven gait against the stone path loud in the abandoned space now that they've both gone silent]

[He jogs a couple of steps to catch up, weaving a little unsteadily]
