[Just rests against him another few beats, quiet]

[His tone wobbles a little, but there's something fierce under that, protective as the hand on the back of her head was]

[Her breath hitches, but all she does is knot her hands in his shirt and huddle closer. Eventually she nods against his shoulder, once]

[He curls her in a little closer - strokes at her hair, gentle, with the hand on the back of her head]

I mean... They only come out when it's pretty dark. Usually the light's on, or I got clothes, or both.

[She straightens up--hesitates--slowly unwraps her scarf. Hesitates again, then tugs it the rest of the way off, and unbuttons the first few buttons of her shirt.

A few beats later, a crease forms in the shadow under her chin; another in the crevice of her neckline. A moment later they wink open, wide, empty eyes staring out from her skin. More follow, faster, equally blank]
