[Hhhesitates, then steps closer as bidden, tense]

[Just. Pulls her into a hug]

[Falls in, easy, a beat later curling her arms around him as well]

[He pulls her close - winds an arm around her so that he can cup the back of her head, protective]

[Lets him, curling in to the crook of his shoulder more heavily]

[For a long time, he just holds her, not quite trusting his voice. Then finally, very soft:]

I'm so sorry.

[Low, a little gravelly]

...Don't gotta be; you didn't do nothin'.

[Just rests against him another few beats, quiet]

It's gross, right? ...I can do a better job of covering 'em.

[His voice is a little rough, too]

It ain't gross. And you don't gotta hide em.

[His tone wobbles a little, but there's something fierce under that, protective as the hand on the back of her head was]

[Her breath hitches, but all she does is knot her hands in his shirt and huddle closer. Eventually she nods against his shoulder, once]

[He takes a breath in - starts to speak. Falls silent]

[Takes another breath in]

Do they, like... do they hurt?

[She pauses, lips pursed]

...Trying to see out of 'em does. They might need glasses, too...
